Pastor Darrell Gustafson serves as the Director of BCTC, the Biblical Counseling Training Center of Arizona.  Pastor Gustafson became a Level II ACBC Certified Counselor in 2001 and has been the Director of the Grace Covenant Counseling Center since 1993. Darrell’s extensive work experience includes 4 years in the USAF, 3 years with a Mesa contractor, and 30 years as the owner/operator of The Carpenter Co. Prior to coming to Grace Covenant Church in Gilbert, he served as an elder at Cornerstone Bible Church. Darrell was ordained as an elder in 1983 and upon graduation from Seminary in 1984; he was installed as the Pastor of Church of the Redeemer in Chandler Heights.

Darrell has served as an Elder at Grace Covenant Church in Gilbert, AZ from 1994 to the present and has served as the Chairman of the Board of Elders for the past 15 years. In 1998, Darrell was set aside as an Associate Pastor of Grace Covenant Church.  As the Church Administrator, Darrell oversees the small group ministries, the evangelistic teams, the counseling ministry, and the building committee. Darrell has effectively counseled many men and couples since 1992. Together, Darrell and Janet have counseled over 400 couples and 1,500 individuals in the past 20 some years.

Director of Women’s Studies and Women’s Issues

Janet Gustafson serves as a Board Member and the Director of Women’s Instruction for the Biblical Counseling Training Center of AZ. In 2001, Janet became the first woman in Arizona to be certified as an ACBC counselor.  She has a flourishing counseling ministry with women and children and participates in couples and family counseling with her husband. Janet is a graduate of the Center for Biblical Training and has received instruction from the Biblical Counseling Foundation and the Institute for Biblical Counseling and Discipleship of Escondido, California. Janet served for 17 years as the head of the Women’s Bible Study teaching staff at Grace Covenant Church.  She has also enjoyed the privilege of teaching at many Christian Women’s conferences and retreats. Janet has served as a counselor and the counseling office manager at Grace Covenant Church since 1993. Janet and Darrell have been married for forty eight years. They have three children, nine grandchildre and one great-grand child.



Wayne Nieman M. Div.; Ph.

Wayne Nieman has taught most school subjects to fifth through twelfth grade students over a period of twenty-seven years. He taught five years in the Christian School setting and twenty-two years in the
public school. Wayne holds a B.A. Ed; M.Div. and a Ph.D in Marriage and Family Counseling.  He is nearing the end of his Capstone Project for his D. Min Major in Biblical Counseling.  He received his NANC Certification in 1995 and has counseled part time for nineteen years. He is presently an ACBC Fellow. He retired as a school teacher in June 2008. Wayne is a board member of the Biblical Counseling Training Center of AZ and serves as a counselor with the Grace Covenant Counseling Ministry. His current ministries include teaching and counseling at GCC. Previous to coming to Grace Covenant Wayne was an Elder at Cornerstone Bible Fellowship and an ordained minister (Teaching Elder) in the Presbyterian Church in America. Wayne has been married to Sandra Nieman for forty-one years. They have two grown sons, a wonderful daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren.


Pastor Nick DeBenedetto

Nick was born and raised in a Roman Catholic home in Phoenix, Arizona. In 1987 he married Cindi, who came to know the Lord in a Baptist church in the farm country of Buckeye, Arizona. In the fall of 1988, God used Cindi’s inquiries and a humble Baptist preacher’s sermon to regenerate his heart. God continued to graciously work in Nick’s family and has blessed he and Cindi with six boys who all follow Christ as their Lord and Savior, four of which are married to God-fearing wives. The youngest are twins who are in high school. God used the Baptist faith to educate Nick with his Christian Studies undergraduate degree at Wayland Baptist University. In June of 2016, Nick graduated from Faith Bible Seminary (a Baptist institution) with his Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling. Nick has his ACBC certification and started his M-Div degree program at Faith Bible Seminary in August of 2016. Nick has been an elder at two Bible churches.

He retired from the Phoenix Police Department in 2011 after 26 years of service to become the small group pastor at a local church. Nick has come to embrace the Doctrines of Grace and the 1689 Second London Baptist Confession of Faith through the loving pursuit of Darrell Gustafson since first meeting him in the fall of 2011.


Pastor Trey Richardson

Trey has been married to Charlotte since 1971 and they have 4 children and 9 grandchildren (and counting), all attending Sovereign grace Church with them.

He has been shepherding at Sovereign Grace Church in Gilbert, Az. since 1989. He has pastoral responsibility for various ministry areas including the Counseling Ministry. Pastor Trey has many years of experience as a Biblical Counselor and has received his Biblical Counseling Certification from the Biblical Counseling Training Center of Arizona and the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors. Trey also serves as a Board Member and instructor for the Biblical Counseling Training Center of Arizona representing Sovereign Grace Church of Gilbert, Az.



Pastor Tom Angstead

Tom was born in 1954 in San Francisco and moved to Phoenix in 1960. Tom met his wife Ann in 1974, and they were married in 1976. God graciously saved Tom and Ann within weeks of each other in 1983.

They have two married daughters and four grandsons and one granddaughter. Tom’s great passion is biblical counseling. Tom has served as a Pastor/Elder at Grace Bible Church since 2003 and is the chairman of the elder board. He also serves the Tempe Police Department as a Police Chaplain. Tom has received his Biblical Counseling Certification from the Biblical Counseling Training Center of Arizona and the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors and represents Grace Bible Church of Tempe, AZ.
